You Need to Know How to Write Short, Long and Longer Stories

In my writing and publishing class, I teach today's readers are smart. You don't have to over explain because they can get your point. A certain number of your stories can be one or two sentences, but if written well imply much more.

Listed here are some shorty short examples:

I walked into the kitchen one day and on top of the frig sat Brent. He said, "The top of the frig is big, but not big enough for both Andrew and me." - C

I was speeding down the Tollway and from the back seat Megan said, "Mommy, did you remember your cell phone on the roof of the car?" - C

"God has last names," Six year old Billy said, "Jesus Christ, God the Father, and Holy Spirit."  - T"

Stopped by the creek for a moment during our morning run. A glimpse of red!  Oh, a McDonald’s French fry container." - M

A little voice from the backseat said, "Here Mommy, I have a present for you" as a cold wet half-eaten apple was pressed into my waiting hand, "It's delicious." - K

While waiting onstage with head bowed in dance position, a fellow dancer pressed a candy into my hand and mouthed "mint" with a smile, the extreme sour spread through to my jawbone as the spotlight hit and the show began. - K

4 Best Sales Practices for Using Social Media

by Gary Galvin

Social media has been traditionally known for it's "soft selling" approach, meaning most users are not online for the sole purpose of shopping and, therefore, they must be persuaded in a different way. What does that mean for you? How do you "sell" through social media without causing your followers and friends to get tired of your overly aggressive tactics? The answer is in what you post and how you post it. Learn more below about effective social media sales strategies you can use to increase sales and keep your audience happy.

The One Word You Need to Know

Since everyone in Holland speaks English, you don’t need to be able to speak Dutch… but it is cool when you do. And no word is cooler or more prevalent than “lekker.” In a country known for having the best diet in the world, it’s only appropriate that the most popular word means “tasty.” Or, at least, that is the traditional definition. But lekker has come to mean so much more, depending on its context:

If food is lekker, it’s delicious. Read more uses of the cool word lekker

Tara Parker-Pope on living well.
The scientific research on the benefits of so-called expressive writing is surprisingly vast. Studies have shown that writing about oneself and personal experiences can improve mood disorders, help reduce symptoms among cancer patients, improve a person’s health after a heart attack, reduce doctor visits and even boost memory.
Now researchers are studying whether the power of writing — and then rewriting — your personal story can lead to behavioral changes and improve happiness.  Click here to read the rest

What are your 2015 Storytelling, Writing, and Publishing goals?

It's almost New Year's Eve.  On that evening all of us are super heroes believing we can do almost anything.

"I will write 1,200 sets of Encyclopedias this year in French."

At some point dreams meet realism which isn't all bad, but don't let your dreams dissolve into crumbs like an old stale cookie on the floor

"I once longed to eat you."

Here's to coaching you into fulfilling your writing and publishing dreams.  I will be teaching several writing conferences in 2015 year online and in person, so please send me an email if interested in knowing more details.  cherylmoeller at comcast.net

I also have excellent experienced editors to refer you to that can coach or edit personally for you.  cherylmoeller at comcast.net

Mckenzie House B and B, Possible Venue for a Future Writing Retreat!

We first noticed Mckenzie House above the other bed and breakfast establishments in Amish County because our youngest daughter is named Mackenzie, so it was worth clicking on the website.

What we found when we visited where the air is sweeter and the birds are whistling a clearer sound was spectacular.

Please look around on Mckenzie House Bed and Breakfast website Click here
Featured recently in Midwest Living Click here
Updated information for latest happenings on facebook for Mckenzie House Click here

Can you believe we had never been to the Shipshewana and Middleburg area of Amish Country in Indiana?
We discovered a real delight that we want to return to soon.

Equally delightful as the venue were the InnKeepers, Bruce and Sherry...

The Bed and Breakfast and rooms are named after their grown daughters.  Bruce and Sherry are just like family, as hosts and as cooks. Excellent breakfast with all of the fixings done like a festive holiday brunch.  We could not have been more well pleased in every way.

We are thinking of doing a marriage retreat and/or another event like a writing conference at this venue fall 2014. What do you think?  Would you like to attend?  Write to us at cheryl@forkeepsministries.com or leave us a comment
