Making the Most of Blog Memes, Guest Essay by Patty Wysong

Making the Most of Blog Memes

by Patty Wysong, author

Blogging Tips and Tricks at Ordinary Lives

Meme, rhymes with cream. It's a collection of like-minded posts, all linked together in one location so others can go from site-to-site visiting. Kind of like a church potluck or, more accurately, a progressive dinner. Often the name will give you a pretty good idea of what the meme is about. To read more click here.

Painless Way to Keep Kids and Teens Writing this Summer

For children – as easy as A,B, C, -
A company, Paper Coterie, has a unique product for beginning aspiring writers called
Prompt Me!

This would be great for children and teens to do this summer as a journal or to keep up with your writing.  It's so easy and fun that they will never know what they are doing is educational. :)

There are two different Prompt Me! books.  Through photos or words or both, you journal while given prompts.  You are given three prompts per week, but you don't have to do them all so you can pick and choose a bit.  It might depend on what you are in the mood to write or whether or not you are home that week this summer.

The books are around $30 (at the end) for 30 pages and additional pages are $1.
So at the end of the summer writing, you order the book and it will be shipped to you or your student.

You could also do this for someone with a fall birthday and start writing about a friend, a sister or each of your children.  It could be a beginning for a mom who is an aspiring writer, also.  Click here

There are other scrapbooks on the Paper Coterie site that you can make up with words and pictures, but only these two have the prompts to get you writing so get writing with a Prompt Me! book today.

People Love Your Stories!

A lot of writing is about telling your stories...

I know Bob's books that were nominated for Gold Medallions were personal story-driven in the 90's (and they told him that is why they were nominated).

Now we really try to make it 80 percent stories, mostly our own.
Reality TV has proven people want the authors personal stories.

Stories illustrate
Stories show rather than tell
Stories answer the question, so all the readers said "So what?"

The stories can be direct illustrations of your point, tangential stories or analogies...
You don't have to tell the readers what they are.  The readers are smart and will figure it out.

Stories also entertain.  Some can give some needed white space margin among heavy content.

We want to get to know the author better and then we will believe her content/principles more, too.

Tell us your stories!

OCR Optical Character Recognition Software

You will find a link to freeware which you can download and use.

They can recognize scans as text rather than JPG or other files.
OCR (optical character recognition) software.

You can use these for various reasons.  I will use them for
out of print books to put up on Kindle?  What can you use them for?
